Dumpy stars the titular Dumpy the Elephant, a belligerent circus elephant rampaging her way through a city to escape the circus. Use the Oculus Rift to become Dumpy – physically swing your trunk and let the mayhem insue!

Dumpy: Going Elephants was a summer project undertaken by myself, several other talented DePaul students, and professor Brian Schrank. The team came together once Brian obtained an Oculus, and everyone expressed an interest in playing with the new hardware.
The challenges involved in working with the Oculus made development interesting. With the Oculus, motion sickness is a real problem – both for your audience, and your team. We scrapped a horror game that played on this disorientation, because it was just too painful physically. Dumpy learned from this game, as well as existing Oculus games, and we ultimately set upon head-tracking as the only control, so as to avoid disassociating the player’s motions from the camera’s motions. Additionally, we kept our game only a few minutes long, preventing player fatigue.
I acted as a designer and prop artist on this project, contributing the core concept and many of the game objects. For the Oculus-enabled and other builds, visit:
